During my internship at the lovely Fluff PR I've come across lots of designers on their books that take my fancy, Thomas Vicary being one of them. As an MA Graduate from Central Saint Martins, his craftsmanship and tailoring is superb, his most recent collection (Autumn/Winter 09) being no exception.
At Fluff we decided to host a small intimate salon show to showcase Vicarys A/W 09 collection. After weeks of planning, it was judgement day. Prepping the goodie bags became tedious but after organizing most of the contents myself, (Jodie Kidd make up, Palmers Body Gloss, Wella Hair products and various vouchers) I felt like they were my children and became strangely very attached to them. After glamming up and getting my hair done by the lovely people from Wella, people started arriving for Vicary's salon show at Home House in Portman Square.
My ensemble consisted of an LBD complete with extremely high shoes and a walkie-talkie, even though the invitation clearly stated 7.30pm, guests started arriving early and getting irritated. Back on track, the models were dressed in the beautiful tailored dresses with photos taken, by catwalking.com prior to the show, on the dramatic staircase.
It all got very frantic as the music started to pump and the models sashayed through the crowded room.
"We need a model" became catch-phrase of the night.
The collection was fantastic; an array of deep reds and black, a shredded black jacket was a particular favorite of mine. With towering hair, a very large wooden necklace, unfinished chic seams and exposed zips, the collection was a hit. Being backstage trying to organize models unfortunately meant I didn't get to see the show and the crowds reaction to the garments. Thomas Vicary shyly poked his head round the door, after some encouragement from me and my boss Ben, to recieve the applause that he deserved.
The after-party in the suite of Home House that Fluff had rented out for the night got messy, with lots of free Tanqueray gin who were the drinks sponsor for the night. Overall, the whole night made me fall in love with fashion again, seeing everything from backstage adds an excitement and exhilaration that looking on style.com can't give!
